Francesco Amodeo 1841-1921
Francesco was born in 1841. In a search to improve his family's standard of living, he left Termini Imerese & emigrated on his own to New Orleans . His youngest son, Diego, was born in April 1894 so presumably it would have been sometime after that. In 1897, his wife Maria died & he was still not back. From that point on, his 14 year old son Biagio took over responsibility for the children ranging in age from 3 to 16. It is not known how long Francesco stayed in America, nor how successful his search was, but at some time he did return. Click this link to read more details of what happened in his absence, written by his granddaughter Rose Badali. Five of the children (Salvatora, Biagio, Mariano, Mary & Diego) emigrated to Canada, beginning with 15 year old Mariano in 1902. However, Diego returned to Termini Imerese after staying only a short while.. There is some evidence there were two other girls, Maria & Antonina, who never left. Francesco died in 1921 and is buried in Termini Imerese (click this link to view his gravesite). At this time we know nothing more about him.
